The Descending Dove

The Decending Dove

One of eight main windows in the sanctuary at Second Baptist Keyport. The featured icon shows a Descending Dove, a symbol for the Holy Spirit. Mark 1:10. (Whittemore) also Matthew 3:16 and John 1:32 "And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. [Jesus]" . The dove is the only shape ever given to the Holy Spirit. It appeared at Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist (verse above.) In all other accounts no shape is given. So, the dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. (Gray 1, 2) This window has no specific date, but certainly was made in the same timeframe as the other windows dated between 1940 and 1941. It was presented by the Missionary Circle, Sister M. K. Page, President.

Dedicated in Memory of Deacon & Mrs. Stape Walker
